Broadband Networked Households Present Sizeable, Lucrative Target for Digital Electronics Vendors

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 1, 2005

A new study from The Diffusion Group, the leading strategic research consultancy focused on the digital home and connected consumer, finds that US households that have both a broadband connection and a home network are much more likely to either own or be inclined to purchase new digital electronic platforms.

Broadband Networked Households: Profiling the New Media Home, the latest of TDG’s Consumer Snapshots, also finds the broadband networked households are moving from single- to multi-unit penetration in digital consumer electronic categories. For example, 29% of broadband networked households now own three or more DVD players, up from 13% in 2004.

“By year-end 2005, there will be approximately 25 million US broadband networked households – a sizeable and influential segment of consumers,” says Dale Gilliam, director of primary research at TDG and co-author of the new study. “But describing broadband networked households is no longer simply a matter of describing early technology adopters – it is more about consumer electronic and media purchasing habits than it is new technology adoption. Simply stated, broadband networked households tend to own significantly more media devices than other US households. Of course, these devices are increasingly digital, but this has more to do with price reductions and peer group recommendations than with early adopter tendencies such as novelty or first-adopter status.”

TDG’s latest report, Broadband Networked Households: Profiling the New Media Home, provides a comprehensive overview of consumer electronic ownership among US households that use both a broadband connection and a home network. The study also includes a detailed, room-by-room snapshot of device location within the home for consumer electronic devices including DVD players, PVRs/DVRs, stand-alone home stereos, stereo speakers, TVs, game consoles, desktop PCs, and laptop PCs. The report also includes trending data on the penetration of a variety of consumer electronic devices within the various rooms of the home.

Apple and Windows Computers Living Together Under One Roof, According to New NPD Report

Apple and Windows Computers Living Together Under One Roof, According to New NPD Report

Port Washington, New York (Vocus) October 6, 2009

According to leading market research company The NPD Group’s 2009 Household Penetration Study, approximately 12 percent of all U.S. computer owning households own an Apple computer, up from 9 percent in 2008. While Apple ownership is growing, those households are decidedly in favor of mixed system environments. Of those 12 percent, nearly 85 percent also own a Windows-based PC.

Multiple computer ownership is a common thread in Apple computer households, with 66 percent of households owning three or more computers, compared to just 29 percent of Windows PC households. Apple owning households are decidedly more mobile as well, with 72 percent of them owning a notebook, whereas only 50 percent of households that have a Windows PC own a notebook.

Not only do Apple computer owners own more computers (and more mobile computers) than the norm they also tend to own more types of electronics, and more of them, than typical computer owning households. For example, while 36 percent of total computer owning households have an iPod, 63 percent of Apple households have one. And while almost 50 percent of Apple owners own some type of navigation system, only about 30 percent of all computer households own one.

“While Apple owners tend to own more computers and more electronics devices, there is also a high correlation among Apple owners and more affluent consumer households,” said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis. “Thirty-six percent of Apple computer owners reported household incomes greater than $ 100,000, compared to 21 percent of all consumers. “With a higher household income, though, it’s not a surprise that those consumers are making more electronics purchases,” Baker said. “The average Apple household owns 48 CE devices whereas the average computer household owns about 24. Apple household owners’ actions and purchases can be used by the industry as leading indicators for hot new products and adoption.”

Immigration reform could help stop tax evasion in household employment

Immigration reform could help stop tax evasion in household employment

Albany, NY (PRWEB) January 11, 2004 -

—According to GTM Household Employment Experts, CEO Guy Maddalone, Pres. George W. Bush’s proposed immigration reforms announced on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2004, could go a long way to help enforce labor laws for the American household employment industry—a growing industry affecting some 1 million undocumented foreign workers in US homes. Maddalone, a national expert on household employment and payroll taxes, said he believes this federal measure will help ensure that employers pay taxes—and at least the mandated locality’s minimum wage—for all their employees.

Maddalone, CEO of GTM Household Employment Experts, a national company headquartered in Clifton Park, NY, said, “President Bush’s plans provide a chance for a large proportion of the estimated 8 million undocumented workers in the United States to move toward legal status–where an approximate 1 million work as household employees. Due to their illegal immigrant status in the United States, many domestic workers keep a low profile with the IRS and US Labor Department and, therefore, work ‘under the table’ for their employers. Also, their employers avoid paying employer taxes and break a number of federal and state laws that clearly mandate payroll taxes be levied on all people working in the United States, including illegal foreigners and those employees who work in the home.”

According to Maddalone, who conducts educational seminars throughout the country on the household employment industry, household payroll taxes, IRS audits, tax compliance, household human resources and dependent care services for corporate employers, Pres. Bush’s immigration proposals will impose a greater degree of documentation for household workers—which could mean increased risks for household employers who are not currently paying taxes on immigrant domestic workers.

“This could have an enormous impact on the household employment industry,” he said. “Many of the foreigners who work in the household employment industry are exploited by the dual-edged sword of being illegal immigrants and being employed in a under-regulated work environment: the home. Many people just don’t understand that the law not only allows, but requires, employers to pay taxes on someone who has an illegal work status in the United States. GTM and other US tax professionals anticipate that these proposed reforms could increase the number of workers and employers paying payroll taxes and, therefore, augment the amount of taxes state and federal government collects.”

Household employment covers a range of professions including nannies, butlers, chauffeurs, chefs, eldercare workers, maids, personal assistants and any other worker employed in another’s household.

Nokero International, Eagle Energy Team Up to Bring Solar Power to 18,000 Households on Navajo Nation That Lack Electricity

Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 31, 2011

Walk into a Navajo Nation supermarket, and you’re likely to see an entire aisle of kerosene – where the toxic fuel is purchased and used for cooking, lighting, and heating in many households there.

Denver-based Eagle Energy and Native American groups have initiated an effort to kickstart a renewable energy movement on the Nation, where an estimated 18,000 households lack electricity according to a recent study by Eagle Energy.

These households are often in rural, hard-to-reach locations in the four corners region of the USA, and are ideal for solar power installations. Nokero International Ltd’s solar lights and phone chargers are among some of the solutions selected by Eagle Energy and the Navajo Nation groups to be introduced to the area.

Census data is not collected on household electrification, but Eagle Energy conservatively estimated that around 18,000 of 48,000 households on the Navajo Nation lack electricity. These are not residents who have decided, for cultural reasons, that they want to live off-grid; they are people who want proper heat and light but don’t have it due to geographic isolation, high poverty levels, legal and political pressures.

Partnering with local groups and chapters was a key component of Eagle Energy’s early research. Rather than come into the Nation with a full-formed plan, Eagle Energy brought an initial idea to the Nation and, from there, locals took up the ideas and formulated the best way to bring solar products (like Nokero) to their area. Local chapters are enthusiastic about the possibility of bringing renewable energy to their region, and universally supported the project ideas proposed by Eagle Energy.
